La Snow!

On New Year's Day, our last morning in France, we woke up to snow. We had been expecting to wake up to snow for sometime, but, in true snow fashion, it managed to surprise us.

We were so pleased with the snowfall that we decided to personify it in the form of an immobile fat man, and take pictures of ourselves with it as if we were good friends. I recall this now with a tinge of regret, as, going by the look on his face, I think the snowman thought we really were friends.

After a while this grew tiresome, so Fred decided to throw a compacted snowball at the back of my skull. This was apparently a French way of signaling that fun was about to ensue. I threw one back, which was a mistake, as this turned an open-and-shut case of assault into a harmless 'snowball fight'. It is unwise for a subtropical Australian to get involved with a Continental European in a snowball fight. In a war of attrition, experience counts for a lot. It would be fair to say I never got off the back foot, and became very attrished, very quickly.

And this is me enjoying a hot chocolate post-snow adventures, Great Gatsby Style.

Snow Day!

I hereby declare Snow Day to be the greatest of all days! Better than Heat Wave Day, better than Hurricane Day, and much, much better than Steady Rain Day.

It's been snowing pretty solidly here since Sunday evening, after the Russians threw some Arctic snow winds in the UK's direction. Hooray for the Russians! They're always doing nice things for other people.

Buses were out, trains were out, tubes were mostly out; roads were reduced to mushy, icy slosh pits; even riding a bike wasn't as easy as you would think.

So, like many other people, getting to work was pretty much out of the question for us. Sadly, we had to stay home and play in the snow all day. It was a very depressing day.

And here's me skiing!

I guess you could call this snow

To those of you who are familiar with snow, this may not be so impressive. It was worth a little snow dance outside for me though, when I woke up on a Sunday to find snow outside. Okay, so maybe Julian had to tell me there was snow outside. I was so cozy with the curtains closed.

The weather here has (unsurprisingly) been getting colder and colder over the past few weeks, and we have had two 'snows' already with sleet expected this week.

Sunny Intervals

London weather, like many weather forecasters, is unashamedly loose with its predictions, so much so, that it is really hard for them to get it wrong. Like Monday's forecast for instance. We were told to expect "Sunny intervals". Well, they were right. It snowed, rained, and hailed a little, but in between it all there were very slight gaps in the clouds when the sun came out for a few seconds at a time. We really didn't mind though, because it was the first time I had snow fall on me from the sky. Real snow that is.

It didn't last for very long when it fell, but we did dance around a little bit like crazy kids in pajamas to make the most of it (possibly scaring all of the old people who live in our complex). Wes and Stacey came over for the easter weekend and seemed a bit partial to crazy snow dances themselves. Maybe it was all the chocolate we had been eating...

I was so pleased to be finally seeing snow after so many close calls that I even dialed up Mum and Dad on ichat so they could experience the 'moment' too.
