The bad thing about visiting a place like Venice is—because everything is so photogenic—you end up taking billions of pointless, "pretty" photos, and almost none of each other.
Also you are RIGHT. I have exactly 4 photos of me in Venice: the first is underexposed and not very flattering, the second is blurry in a hotel room, the third is blurry and on the way to intoxicated (me, not the photo) and the fourth is the one I show people. I have countless pictures of canals and colourful buildings, though. Ehh.

Everytime I attempted to take a picture of horse man, I got serious glares. Blame does not lie with me...
I particularly love the first photo. I can't turn my eyes away! Surely that can not be pointless.
