It's a bird, it's a plane... no... what is it?

Question: What can £400,000 of design budget produce for one of the most anticipated events in London?

I thought it was a joke at first but no. Any guesses as to what this olympic logo actually represents? I couldn't see it, even after people told me. This 'hip, graffiti-art' version of the numbers '20-12' was designed to show London as a technologically leading City. I do like the fact that they can use any of the primary colours for the logo- there is also a pink, and a blue version. Sometimes the colour changes shades from top to bottom... classy.

My personal favourite touch is the 'Comic Sans' like font that they use for the word 'London'.

Since its public release, competitions to come up with better designs using the pre-school like shapes have been rampant. My favourites:
